Luxury limo-esque SUVs with six-figure price tags aren't anything new, but the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 brings the storied marque's ultra-luxury touch to the marketplace to do battle with brands such as Bentley and Rolls-Royce. The GLS600 is loaded to the gills with fancy features and its handsome-but-flashy exterior will leave no question to the level of wealth or celebrity luxuriating inside. Don't plan on bringing the whole family with you, as the Maybach version of the GLS-class offers just two rows of seats instead of three, but do plan on bringing your jeweled tiara, diamond-encrusted Patek Philippe wristwatch, and a couple bottles of Dom Pérignon to chill in the GLS600's wine fridge. If you're in the market for a high-dollar luxury SUV, you're hardly going to listen to the likes of us when deciding which options to order. Plus, it seems Mercedes-Maybach is making most things standard, including a semi-autonomous driving mode, nappa leather upholstery, and handsome interior and exterior trimmings. We'll know more about the GLS600's available packages and accessories closer to its on sale date. The GLS600's twin-turbocharged V-8 makes 558 horsepower and can motivate the big luxury SUV from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, according to Mercedes-Maybach. The engine is assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system that gives a little extra shove right from the start. If that's not fast enough for you, check out the Mercedes-AMG GLS63, which offers a 603-hp version of this powertrain and leapt to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds at our test track. We haven't driven the GLS600 yet, but we expect a silky-smooth ride and an exceptionally quiet cabin. An air suspension is standard, and it features a Maybach mode that is said to all but erase bumps in the road.
